H2O Water! PDF Print E-mail
Written by Tony Houghton

Building on the ideas of the 'Inspiring Partnerships' afternoon at Gorseland Primary School in June, we will be having a Hothouse- H2O (Hothouse 2 Overseas!) November 17th Stoke High School, Ipswich to coincide with a visit from our Ugandan friends from Buhumba!

Schools will be given the opportunity to present and share their ideas and projects about the importance of water in their communities both face-to-faceand through videoconferencing with our global partner schools. To support this, BT will be offering tailored 'teach-ins' to each school focussing on the project chosen by the school and featuring coaching in presentation and team-working skills

Since water is the theme we would like schools to choose different areas to focus on; below are ideas based on previous and ongoing school projects (these are flexible and not all schools have a water themed project yet!):

*   Kudawella: water as a source of income and food- fishing

*   Gorseland: water as a source of income - Felixstowe the largest

containerport in Europe

*   Katha: water's importance for cleanliness and health (sewage

and storage)

*   Stoke and St Jo's: Cold as Ice

*   Nacton:

*   Buhumba: water jars - storage and scarcity

*   East Bergholt: water jars - drinking and storage

*   Brownhills:

The date is Tuesday 17th November at Stoke High School, Ipswich!

Meanwhile, here is some fabulous work in which Katha develop a solution to identify blockages in their sewage system - this captures our approach so perfectly because it goes beyond studying water as a very important social issue...to go beyond this to a solution...just like the zero cost energy bike!

But water is important for ALL of our global schools:

Here is Buhumba working with East Bergholt on water storage jars...Look at the Kudawella fishermen! And here are Stoke and St. Jo's 'Cold as Ice' project. We now want to focus on this hugely important social issue culminating in our November 19th get-together whene we hope to have Buhumba IN PERSON and also videoconferenece with India, Uganda and Sri Lanka!

4_cams__textbox.jpg  Finally!!!! Just in case you think this is one way traffic first to third word you could not be more wrong! Water is a hugely important subject to our local village school in Nacton, Sussex who have had to deal with non-mains sewage. Here's a picture of our Nacton students working with such assurance, beautifully presenting and working together on videoconference - and also take a look at the article: Village school goes global!
