How to Join Us!
You can join this easiCOP and start your own project or you can start your own easiCOP!
easiCOP is sponsored by BT who make the following invitation to join:
School collaboration opportunities – UK and Global
The BetterWorld Campaign is part of BT’s Community Investment activity and works to improve young people’s communication and collaboration skills. Collaboration projects have proved to be very valuable to schools taking part and easiCOP is an example of a global community of practice. It comprises of schools and other organisations dedicated to supporting education and social inclusion for families and communities, adults and children, and individual self-esteem and aspirations. The focus is Communication & Collaboration, using a mix of the easiCOP on-line support tool (and in particular WIKI, video and videoconferencing) together with the easiCOP physical face-to-face Hothouse engagement process.
We invite schools and organisations to join this Community of Practice on the following basis:
(1) The opportunity is to support schools and other organisations in global and local communication and collaboration – the invitation and onus is on the school to take advantage of this opportunity rather than BT or indeed the community to lead.
(2) This is sponsored and supported by BT CSR and is not a ‘product for sale’. No money is requested or given for this activity.
(3) As a community of practice, and using open-source software, the activity is owned and supported by members of the community of practice and in particular by BT (non paid) Volunteers of whom Tony Houghton 07802 765575 is one.
(4) The easiCOP on-line site and associated engagement process are part of the BT Betterworld Corporate Social Responsibility portfolio of activities such as Internet Rangers, Web build and face to face communication skills activities and FREE resources.
(5) easiCOP is a focal point for collaboration and communication, and in many cases a beginning for much more extensive activity ranging from a ‘Zero cost energy’ bike, to a widespread curricular activity with spin-off site to the wonderful school-developed ‘icook’ site. This activity is led by the school or organisation, and shared with the community.
The four phases of engagement are:
(1) Induction – a discussion on how we might work together including identifying a suitable project challenge, objectives and timescales. The school(s) will be asked to provide an ‘easiCOP’ champion to drive the activity, liaise with local and global partners and provide a one page maximum entry for the Project Partners and the Project section of the website. This first entry will be entered by ourselves and show ‘how to do it’ for further input by the Champion who will also be responsible allocating any user ids to other people/students. No training or special equipment is required. Time spent on the project is entirely up to the participants.
(2) Teach-in – a 'two-hour' intensive Hothouse type activity led by Tony Houghton within the school(s) to kick off the work. This may include videoconferencing with the global partner school(s).
(3) Hothouse – communication and collaboration with other schools and partners in Hothouses of various types – in particular we invite a team of 5 children to our November 19th Hothouse in BT London.
(4) Community of Practice – contributing to and benefiting from membership of our community of practice!
As detailed on this easiCOP site, organisations may wish to develop their own easiCOP equivalent. We are pleased to offer our informal free advice on this; however another activity would have to be paid for.
